Major Cost Elements in Certification

Major Cost Elements :

Certification cost mainly depend on the size and complexity of operations of the applicant company.

Three major cost elements are :

1. Cost of Purchase / Calibration of Measuring Instruments.

2. Fees to be paid to External Consultant.

3. Fees to be paid to Certification Body.

Choosing a Certifying Body :

Note : To adopt ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 certifications in SSI units, Govt. of India provides reimbursement upto 75% or max. 75,000/- of total expenditure including fees paid to Certification Body as well as Consultant*.
* Kindly note Govt. reimburse on consultant fees only if consultant is registered and recognized by Quality Council of India.

Steps Involved in Certification Process

  • Gap Analysis : Assessment of existing management practices vis-à-vis requirement of particular certification standard.
  • Orientation Training : Top, Senior and middle level Management orientation on standard requirements and actions plans.
  • Documentation : Preparation of quality manuals and design of different formats related to functional need of an organization.
  • System Implementation : Implementation of system as per the designed documents & particular standard requirements.
  • Company Wide Training : Training on different clauses of required certification standard, Statistical Techniques and Internal Audit etc.
  • Internal Audits : Periodic assessment of system implementation and corrective actions.
  • Management Review : Management contribution and commitment for further and proper implementations of Management System.
  • Pre Assessment : Initial visit by Certifying agency for document review.
  • Initial Audit : By the Certifying agencies and recommendation for certification.

Choosing a Certifying Body :

This  is also an important job. Usually, your consultant suggests a name but, do not forget to ask your friends in the industry and verify the credibility of certifying body. Certifications of these standards are more relevant in contractual situations. Your customer can well be aware of the standard of certifying bodies. DNV, TUV, BSI, BVQI, BIS, SGS, KPMG, SMR  & URS etc. are some of the certifying bodies operating in India.
